Changelog

New features and fixes for the server and the client.

Small fixes - hit flash, level guide, PM boxes

  • Hit flash: the red tint of a character that was hit now fades back to its normal colour in 0.3 seconds instead of switching off at once.
  • Level guide: the quest text no longer shows a fifth line under the fourth; the four visible lines fit the text area and scroll with the bar.
  • Private message boxes: a small button next to the close button folds a box to its title strip. The name still blinks when a new line arrives; click the strip to open the box again.

Windows remember where you put them

  • Window positions: a window you drag (chat, info, hotkey bar, party list, and any pop-up window that can be moved) stays where you left it the next time you log in with that character. Positions are kept per character and measured from the nearest screen edge, so a different screen size still keeps the window on screen.
  • Reset: type /resetui in the chat to put all windows back in their default places.

The skill bar is kept by the server

  • Skill and potion bar: the places and pages of your skills and potions are now saved on the server for each character and come back every time you enter the game, on any computer.
  • Characters that already had a bar on this computer keep it: it is sent to the server the first time they enter.

The buff bar can be moved

  • Buff bar: the row of timed skill icons in the top right corner (Swift and the other buffs) can be dragged with the left mouse button, on an icon or on the empty part of the row. The place you leave it at is kept when you start the game again. The bar stays on the screen.
  • Default place: the bar now starts right under the zone name panel, so its icons no longer cover the name of the zone.
  • A plain click on a buff icon does nothing new; a double click still cancels a positive buff.

Private message boxes above the chat

  • PM boxes: every person you whisper with gets a small window just above the chat window: their name as the title, a close button, the conversation (your lines and theirs, in the colour of the private chat) and an input line. Press Enter to send the whisper to that person.
  • When a box opens: quietly when a whisper arrives (the title blinks until you click the box), and with the keyboard ready when you choose Whisper in the player menu, the friend list, the clan page or the boards, or type /PM name. Typing @name text opens the box without taking the keyboard.
  • Several boxes: up to four boxes stand side by side; a fifth closes the oldest. Drag a box by its title to put it elsewhere.
  • Closing: closing a box keeps the conversation; it opens again with its lines when the person writes to you. The Private tab of the chat window still shows every whisper.

A loot box beside the fallen monster

  • Loot box: when a monster drops loot, a small box (the item bundle of the game files) appears next to its body. Click it with the left or right button to open the loot window, just as you would by clicking the body. The body can still be clicked too.
  • Gone when empty: the box disappears when you take everything, when the bundle turns out empty, or when the body fades away after about 90 seconds. If you close the window with loot left, the box stays.

Loading, exit and item sounds follow the 1.298 look

  • Loading screen: the artwork is the one of the last war's winner (Karus, El Morad, or the common one without a winner), not of your own nation. The line under the bar reads the 1.298 texts: "Loading data...", then the terrain's patch and tile data with their percentages.
  • Leaving the game: the nation's ending picture shows on black for one second before the game closes. This applies to the exit menu, the countdown after a refused exit, and the exit from character select. The window's close button still closes at once.
  • Cursor: the mouse cursor takes the colour of your character's nation once you are in the world.
  • Level up: the yellow ring and the red flash that marked a level change are gone; the 1.298 level-up effect remains.
  • Anvil: after an upgrade the two covers slide apart and the result flips through its frames, a success in blue and a failure in red, before the window shows the outcome.
  • Sounds: picking an item up in the inventory, shop, trade and warehouse plays its item sound. Cancelling the count box of a warehouse move plays the item or gold sound, and so does cancelling the gold box of a trade.

Spell marks follow the ground

  • Ground marks: the round marks that spells leave on the ground now follow the slope of the terrain under them, instead of floating above or sinking into it.
  • Ground boards: effects that stand on the ground now rest on it with their bottom edge, as in 1.298, instead of lying flat.

Weapon glow, swing trails, worn equipment and shadows

  • Weapon glow: weapons with fire, ice, lightning or poison damage now glow in their element, with sparks around the blade, on players and monsters alike.
  • Swing trails: weapons leave a fading trail during an attack swing; an elemental weapon's trail takes the element's colour.
  • Worn equipment: armour and weapons look dusty when their durability falls to 70 % and heavily worn at 30 %, for you and for other players.
  • Monster effects: monsters and guard stones with effects bound to their body (fire, smoke, poison) now show them.
  • Shadows: characters near the camera cast a shadow on the ground at the hours 1.298 draws one (the [Shadow] Use setting of Option.ini turns them off).

Rivers, ponds and eagles move like in 1.298

  • Water: rivers and ponds animate as in 1.298. The caustic light on the surface cycles through its 32 frames, the river surface flows and waves, and ponds ripple when they are on screen.
  • Birds: eagles fly over the zones on their 1.298 paths, turn to face the way they fly, and call every 30 to 49 seconds.

Moon, stars and a darker sky in rain and snow

  • Night sky: the moon now crosses the sky opposite the sun and changes its phase day by day, and up to 200 stars come out slowly after nine in the evening and fade at dawn. Clouds pass in front of both.
  • Weather: rain and snow now darken the sky, the fog, the clouds and the light over about ten seconds, hide the sun and bring heavier clouds the stronger they are; when the weather clears, the sky returns to the colours of the hour.
  • Clouds: cloud layers now blend smoothly into new cloud types instead of switching at once.
  • Light: the world is lit by the three lights of the original: the sun light, a second light from above and a soft light around the camera, with the colours of the time of day.

Lightning can stun you

  • Stun: a lightning spell that hits you can stun you for 3 seconds, as in 1.298. The chance is 70 % with no lightning resistance and falls with it, to 30 % at 80 or more. While stunned you cannot walk, steer, attack, cast or sit down, and mouse turning is refused; the turn keys still work.
  • Cast break: a lightning spell that reaches you while you cast breaks your cast, and can stun you as well.

Login and character select follow the 1.298 flow

  • News: after a successful sign-in the login news show first, and their OK opens the server list. Without news the server list opens at once.
  • Server list: Up and Down move the selection and wrap around.
  • Exit: the Exit button and Escape on character select ask before leaving the game.
  • Options: the Options button on the login screen asks first, then starts the options program and closes the game.
  • Messages: refused sign-ins, failed character creation and a lost connection show the game's own texts and titles.

Party panel and hotkey bar can be moved, message boxes no longer block the screen

  • Moving windows: the party panel and the hotkey bar follow the mouse when you drag their title strip, like the chat and info windows. The state bar no longer moves, as in 1.298.
  • Message boxes: a message box only takes the mouse on its own frame. Clicks elsewhere reach the world and the open windows. A message that is already on the screen is shown again instead of a second copy.
  • Command list: all categories of 1.298 are listed (Private, Trade, Party, Clan, Knights, Guardian Monster, King and an empty GM row). Commands the client does not carry out yet do nothing, as in 1.298. The list slides in and out from the right edge.

Small HUD items: buff cancel, party bars and minimap

  • Buffs: a double click on a positive buff icon at the top right cancels it, as in 1.298. Damage-over-time icons cannot be cancelled.
  • Minimap: party members are yellow dots drawn on top of the other dots.
  • Party bars: the HP and MP bars move smoothly after a change. A member who suffers HP loss shows the drop bar, and with two status effects at once that bar blinks.
  • Command bar: the camera button changes the view, the same as F9.
  • State bar: HP and MP read "current / maximum", the position has one decimal, and the frame rate has one decimal. The system clock is no longer shown, as in 1.298.

Combat stances and upper-body attacks

  • Combat stance: a player who has an enemy targeted now stands in the ready pose of the weapon in hand instead of the plain breathing pose.
  • Attacking on the move: an attack while walking or running swings with the arms only; the legs keep walking.
  • Being hit: players flinch with the upper body, also while they run.
  • Town people and monsters: now and then they play their idle talk animations between breaths.
  • Blocks: a missed blow on someone who is casting no longer makes them flinch or flash red.
  • Attack speed: attack speed buffs also speed up your own attack animation.

Clan names over the heads

  • Clan names: a character in a clan shows its clan name in red above its name, as in 1.298. It is yours too, and it goes away when you leave the clan.
  • Admit: the clan page's Admit button, shown to the leader and the assistant leader, invites the player you have targeted, the same as /join_clan. It waits 3 seconds between two clicks.

Chat notices, war messages and balloons

  • War messages scroll across the top of the screen for a minute instead of being printed as a chat line.
  • Notices above the chat lines are shown and cleared the way 1.298 does it, and the notices that the chat repeats are printed in the chat when they arrive.
  • Talk of the other nation is garbled in zones that do not allow talking across nations, unless a game master is involved.
  • Balloons show normal and shout talk above the head of the talker within 4 metres.
  • Tips of the day appear in the info window every 20 seconds while your level is below 12.

Castle gates and levers turn, and the gate lines appear

  • Gates: a castle gate that is open when you come near is drawn open, and it swings when its state changes.
  • Levers: a lever that you pull turns, and its gate turns with it. The info window says when a gate has opened or closed and when a lever has been activated.

Bows and crossbows shoot on their own

  • Ranged auto-attack: with a bow or crossbow equipped, R (or a double click or Ctrl + click on the selected target) keeps shooting basic archery shots at the target, one after another, as in 1.298. R again stops it, and walking away from the target stops it too.

Windows: walking closes them, Escape closes only the right ones

  • Walking closes windows: the NPC menu, the reset dialog, the warp list, the inn, the shop, the warehouse, the loot window, the quest windows, the trade board and its selector, the clan name box, the command edit box and the anvil windows close when you walk forward or back, or start an auto-attack, as in 1.298.
  • One window at a time: opening the NPC menu, the warp list, the inn, the reset dialog, the exit menu or the anvil closes the other open windows.
  • Escape: only the windows that answer Escape in 1.298 close with it. The exit menu, the command edit box, the clan name box, the loot window and the anvil select dialog ignore it.
  • NPC menu and trade: a trade request closes the NPC menu. While a personal trade is open, Buy and Repair do nothing and the menu stays open.

Skill tree tooltips, page keys and hotkey skill names

  • Skill tree: hovering a skill shows its description, MP cost, required level or skill point, the weapon it needs and the item it uses up. Hovering a class tab shows what that tab is for.
  • Skill tree pages: PageUp and PageDown turn the pages while the tree is open, and so does the mouse wheel over the window.
  • Hotkey bar: hovering a slot with a skill shows the skill's name on the bar. After a short rest the mouse shows the skill as [name] description.

Mouse and keys match 1.298

  • Casting with the mouse: Ctrl + right click, or a right double click, casts the hotkey skill you selected with a right click on the bar.
  • Target party: X selects the nearest party member in view, dead ones too; with nobody in view the target is cleared.
  • Corpses: a right click on a corpse with loot opens its loot at once, like the left click.
  • Personal trade: while a trade is open the world keys, the window keys and the world clicks are ignored, as in 1.298.
  • While dead: Z, B, T, the hotkey pages, F9 and the screenshot work; the pitch keys Home and End work; walking, turning, auto-run, attacking and casting still do not.

Dead players leave corpses, and blinking, size and emotes show on other characters

  • Corpses: a player who dies and then leaves your view stays on the ground as a corpse that fades out over the next 10 seconds, as in 1.298.
  • Looting: opening the loot of a corpse starts its fade at once, so it disappears within 10 seconds.
  • Blinking: a character that has just respawned flickers for 10 seconds, the same way it does in 1.298.
  • Size: giants and dwarves are drawn at double and half size, and the change takes one second.
  • Emotes: greetings and war cries of other characters are played on their body.
  • Game masters: a game master who uses the invisible command is hidden from ordinary players until it shows itself again.

Info window: coins, national points and warp messages

  • Coins: the info window shows the Coins you earn and lose: "Earned N Coins." and "Lost N Coins.", with the colours of 1.298.
  • National points: a rise of your national points is shown as "Earned N national points.".
  • Warps: arriving at a warp names its destination in the info window, and a warp that is closed during the Lunar War shows why.
  • Quests: the level 70 quests 51 to 54 show "You have started quest: N" when they start.
  • Skills: the "Using ..." line of a skill is yellow, as in 1.298.

Flying spells and arrows now hit their target

  • Spells and arrows: fire balls, arrows and every other skill that flies to its target now deal their damage when they reach it. Before, the flight reached the target and nothing happened.
  • Walls and ground: a shot that flies into a wall or the ground stops there and shows its impact, like in 1.298.
  • Impact effect: everyone around now sees the impact of a flying skill where it landed.

Leaving from the exit menu is refused for 10 seconds after a fight

  • Exit delay: for 10 seconds after you hit someone or are hit, the Exit and Select Character buttons of the exit menu do not close the game or return you to the character list. The info window says "You cannot exit from the client during a battle." and the exit happens by itself once the countdown ends, as in 1.298.
  • Countdown: the info window counts down "Exiting game in 9 seconds." and so on, in red.
  • Cancel: a new hit given or taken during the countdown cancels the exit and shows "Exiting game canceled."

Trade board: sell and buy posts

  • Opening: the Sale button of the inn menu opens a small menu: Selling item, Buying item or Cancel. The board lists the posts of your nation, 23 per page, with the seller, the title and the price. Refresh reloads the page; it can be used every 3 seconds.
  • Register: Register asks first (1000 Coins for a sell post, 500 Coins for a buy post), then opens the post box: a title (up to 18 letters), a price (up to 8 digits) and a memo (up to 40 letters). Delete removes your own post; a game master can remove any post.
  • Trade: select a post of another player and press Trade. You pay 5000 Coins and the seller is asked for a trade, even when he is far away.
  • Private: Private starts a private chat with the seller of the selected post.
  • Memo: double-click a post to read its memo. The previous and next buttons (or PageUp and PageDown) move to the neighbouring posts of the page.
  • Limits: a post stays for 10 hours or until its owner logs out. Requests to the board are spaced at least one second apart.

Warp, self and weapon effects, and more sounds

  • Warp effect: a warp shows the warp effect and its sound on your character, as in 1.298.
  • Item and potion effects: a potion or item skill shows its self effect as soon as you use it.
  • Weapon elements: a hit from a fire, ice, lightning or poison weapon shows that element's effect, the right hand first, then the left; other hits keep the blood effect.
  • Archery sound: an arrow shot with a bow in the left hand plays the bow release sound at the shooter.
  • Character select: turning the stage with the left and right arrows plays the turn sound.

Clan ban and co-leader lines match 1.298

  • Clan chat: banning a member shows "#### <name> has been banned. ####" to the clan and to the banned player. Appointing a co-leader shows "#### <name> has been appointed as a co-leader. ####" to the whole clan.
  • Offline members: banning a member who is not online shows no line, as in 1.298.

Party board: find a party and be found

  • Seeking a party: type /seeking_party to list yourself on the party board. Type it again to stop. Your name shows a green line above your head: "Seeking Party : Level x ~ y", with the levels that can join you.
  • Party board: the list shows the players of your nation and zone who are seeking a party and are not in one, with their name, level and class. Twenty-two players are shown per page; use the page buttons and Refresh.
  • Register and delete: the Register and Delete buttons ask first, then list or remove you.
  • Selecting a player: click a row. Private Message starts a private chat with it, and Invite invites it into your party (the same as the party invite).

Friends list in the character window

  • Friends tab: the Friends tab of the character window opens the friends page. Target a player and press Register to add them, select a name to delete it, whisper it, or invite it to your party.
  • Online status: names show in green when online, red when in a party, and grey when offline. Refresh asks again for the names on the page, at most once every 3 seconds.
  • Saved on this computer: the list is kept per account and server, so it is still there after you log in again. It is not shared between the characters of an account.

Help, level guide, command list and notice windows

  • Help (F10): the three help pages open at the centre of the screen. PageUp and PageDown turn the pages, Escape closes them.
  • Level guide: the Quest button of the state bar opens the quests for your level, three to a page, with their texts. You can search a level up to 5 levels above yours; a higher number is cut to that limit with a message.
  • Command list (H or the Command button): the Private commands (PM, Town, Exit, the greetings and provocations, Save) in the list on the right edge. A double click or Enter runs the selected command; PM asks for the target in a small box. The Command button replaces the options button in the command bar; the options are still in the exit menu.
  • Login notice: the server's notices open in their own window at the top right instead of the chat. Enter, Escape or its button closes it.

Personal trade window

  • Starting a trade: type /trade with another player targeted. Within 11 metres and in the same nation (or where the zone allows it), the other player gets a permit box with Yes and No, and you get a wait box with Cancel while you wait.
  • The trade window: nine offers on each side, your gold and your bag below. Drag an item from your bag onto your offers; a stack asks how many, and gold asks how much with the gold button. Your trade button marks your offer as final, and the window closes when the trade ends.
  • Cancelling: the close button cancels the trade and your offers go back to your bag. Escape does not close the trade window. Your inventory does not open while a trade is on.

Clans can be created and managed

  • Create a clan: the inn's Create a Clan button checks your level, your gold and whether you are already in a clan. Then it asks for a name (up to 20 characters) and the 500 000 Coins cost before the clan is made.
  • Clan page: the Clan tab of the character window lists the members of your clan with the leader first, then the assistant leaders, and shows how many are online. The page buttons turn through the list and Refresh asks for it again.
  • Invites and commands: /join_clan, /quit_clan, /ban_from_clan and /appoint_as_assistant_clan_leader work as in 1.298. On the clan page, Invite, Private, Appoint and Ban act on the selected member.

Magic anvil: upgrade weapons and armour in Moradon

  • Anvil dialog: talking to the magic anvil in Moradon opens its dialog. Upgrade Item opens the upgrade window; Walk away closes the dialog. Compound Accessory is shown but not available yet.
  • Upgrading: drag a unique or upgrade item from your bag onto the upgrade slot, and the scrolls or consumables it needs onto the requirement slots. A right click puts an item where it fits. OK asks you to confirm first, because the item may be destroyed.
  • Results: a success shows the upgraded item in the result slot and uses up the requirement items. A failure burns the item. Not enough Coins, or a wrong set of items, is reported in the info window.
  • Closing: the close button or Escape closes the window. A click on the result slot or Cancel empties it.

Reset your stat and skill points with the trainer

  • Reset dialog: the reset step of an NPC opens a small dialog with two rows: reset stat points, reset skill points.
  • Price: choosing a row shows a confirm box with the price in coins. OK pays and resets; Cancel changes nothing.
  • Stats: the stats go back to the base values of your race and you get the points again for your level. Take off your worn items first; the dialog refuses while any are worn.
  • Skills: the skill points are given back, every skill tree tab is cleared and the hotkey bar is emptied.
  • Messages: you are told when you do not have enough coins, when there is nothing to reset, or when items are worn.

Personal trade rules

  • Trading with players: the rules of a personal trade are in place as in 1.298: a request goes to a player within 11 metres of you, a player of the other nation only where the zone allows it, and an item or gold you offer leaves your bag until the trade ends, is refused, or is cancelled.
  • Messages: the requests, declines, cancellations and failed trades print the 1.298 lines in the info window.

Party: invite, join, leave and kick, with the party list

  • Party list: when you are in a party, its members are listed at the top right with their names, HP bars and MP bars. Click a member to target it.
  • Inviting: target a player and press the Invite button on the command bar, or type /party. The invited player is asked to join and answers Yes or No.
  • Refusals: you are told when an invitation is declined, when the level difference is too large, or when the other player is from the other nation.
  • Leaving: type /quit_party, or press the Disband button and confirm. A member leaves; the leader disbands the party. The leader can also remove a member by targeting it and pressing the button.
  • Messages: you are told when someone joins or leaves, and when the party is disbanded.

Combat and footstep sounds

  • Swings and hits: a swing plays the sound of the weapon in your hand (the left hand's when the right is empty, the body's sound when both are), and a blow plays its impact sound on the character it hits. A character that is hit and survives also gives its hit sound.
  • Footsteps and breathing: walking, running and walking backward step on the frames of the animation, and an idle character breathes with its own sound.
  • Deaths: a dying character plays its death sound once, as it falls.
  • Effects: the sounds of spells, blood and level-up effects play where the effect starts, as long as the camera is close enough.
  • Distance: characters more than 20 m away make no footsteps, swings or breaths, so a crowd does not get loud.

Archery and area skills

  • Archery: bow skills need the arrows they use, shoot a volley of arrows that fans out from the aim, and reach as far as the bow allows, the way 1.298 does.
  • Area skills: an area skill shows a marker and a ring on the ground that follow the mouse; the next left click picks the spot, and the skill is refused when the spot is too far.
  • Targets: party and dead friend skills resolve their target like in 1.298, and a skill aimed at a character behind a wall is blocked by the object.

Spell and skill animations

  • Casting: your character holds the spell pose while a skill is cast and plays the release when it lands. A blow you take while casting can break the cast, as in 1.298. Melee skills play their combo, and a crossbow shot uses the crossbow poses.
  • Others: other players' spells and monsters' casts are animated too. A monster that casts at you turns to you and swings, and a failed cast returns the caster to its normal pose.

Level-up and respawn effects

  • Level up: when a character's level rises, its level-up effect of its nation plays, for you and for the other players around you.
  • Respawn: coming back at a re-spawn point plays the regeneration effect, for you and for the other players around you.
  • Class change: a class promotion plays the class change effect on the character.

Buffs and their icons

  • Buff icons: spells that buff you or hit you over time now show their skill icon along the top right of the screen. The icons of the last ten seconds blink, and hovering one shows the skill name.
  • Speed and attack buffs: a movement speed buff changes how fast you walk and run, an attack speed buff shortens the time between your swings and the casting time of your spells. Buffs end when their time is up or when the server ends them.
  • Greyed skills: a skill you cannot use right now (not enough MP or HP, or a missing item) is greyed out in the skill tree, as it already is on the hotkey bar.

Quest NPCs can be talked to

  • Quest menu: right-click a quest NPC from close by. Its menu opens with the NPC's name, the title in a scrolling text box and one line per choice; click a line to pick it. Escape or the close button closes the menu without a choice.
  • Quest talk: the NPC's answer is shown page by page. OK moves to the next page and the last OK ends the talk. Enter does the same as OK.

Moradon warp gates can be clicked and the zone list appears

  • Warp gates: left-click a warp gate in Moradon to select it, then right-click it from close by. Its zone list opens with the destinations and their fees; OK or a double-click travels to the one you pick.
  • Bind points: right-click a bind point from close by to set your re-spawn point. A question box asks first.
  • Too far: the info window tells you when you are too far from the gate or the bind point.

Music and the first sounds are in the new client

  • Music: the login intro plays on the login screen and stays on through character select until you enter the world. In the world the town music plays; it changes to the battle music when you attack or cast a spell on an enemy, and back to the town music when no enemy is within 12 metres.
  • Item and gold sounds: moving, picking up or buying an item, picking up gold and repairing an item each play their sound. Weapons and armour have their own sounds.
  • Weather and birds: rain and wind loops follow the weather, and birds call from their places in the zone.

Repairs at the tinker and the inn warehouse

  • Repair: the Repair button of a tinker's menu opens the inventory in repair mode. Hovering an item shows its repair cost (red when you cannot pay it), and a click repairs a worn or bag item to full durability. Items that are not repairable show "irreparable item", and a repair you cannot pay for prints a message.
  • Inn warehouse: the inn menu's Warehouse button opens your warehouse: 8 pages of 24 slots. Drag items between the warehouse and your bag, move them inside the warehouse or inside the bag, and put coins in and take them out with the gold buttons. Stacks ask for the number first.

Hits and skills show their original effects

  • Hits: a blow shows the blood effect at the struck character's chest, as in 1.298.
  • Skills: a skill shows its effect on the caster while it is cast, and on the target when it lands. Effects made of 3D meshes are not shown yet, and your own flying skills do not fly yet.
  • Particles: most particle effects of skills are shown now, sparks and glows that spread and fade. Particle effects that follow a 3D shape are not shown yet.

Rain, snow and fog from the server weather

  • Weather: the weather the server sets is shown around you: rain streaks or snowflakes fall in the outdoor zones, and the view distance and fog change with the weather, easing over five seconds as in 1.298. Clear weather can carry fog.
  • Game masters: /clean, /raining <percent>, /snowing <percent> and /time <hour> <minute> are sent to the server. Only game masters can use them; the server ignores everyone else.

NPC shops: buy, sell and rearrange items with the merchant

  • Shop window: choosing Buy in a merchant's menu opens the shop with its stock in pages of 24. Turn the pages with the page buttons, the mouse wheel or Page Up / Page Down.
  • Buying: drag an item from the stock into your bag. Stackable items ask how many first. You are told when you do not have enough coins, when you cannot carry more, or when you are over your weight limit.
  • Selling: drag an item from your bag onto the stock to sell it. Stackable items ask how many; other items ask you to confirm.
  • Moving: rearrange the items in your bag while the shop is open.
  • Tooltips: the stock shows the purchasing price and your bag items show the selling price.
  • Closing: Escape, the close button or opening the skill tree closes the shop. Walking away does not.

Moradon anvil shows its real model

  • Object NPCs: the Magic anvil in Moradon now shows its real model and name instead of a yellow placeholder. It appears when its NPC comes into view and goes away with it.
  • Selecting: left-clicking the anvil selects it as your target, and the target ring fits its shape.
  • Game masters: monsters and NPCs show a green ID line above their names.

Right click a non-hostile NPC you have selected to talk to it

  • Talking: select a non-hostile NPC with a left click, then right click it (without Ctrl) to talk. You must be within reach of it, or the info window says you are too far away.
  • NPC menu: a merchant opens a menu with a Buy button, a tinker opens one with Buy and Repair. Escape or the close button closes it. Buy and Repair are not working yet; the shop and repair mode come later.

Class skills can be cast from the hotkey bar

  • Casting: pressing a hotkey that holds a class skill now casts it: self, friendly, hostile and NPC targets are resolved like in 1.298, the target must be in range, and skills with a cast time are interrupted when you move, sit or die.
  • Cooldowns: a used skill starts its recast time and a short global delay, and the messages for a failed cast (too far, missed, casting failed) are shown in the info window.

Character and monster names are coloured like in 1.298

  • Name colours: names above characters and monsters are coloured as in 1.298. Players and NPCs of your own nation show in blue, those of the enemy nation in red. Monsters, which belong to no nation, show in the reddish colour. Your own name is sky blue.

Skill points and the skill tree in the new client

  • Skill points: the "+" buttons of the skill window spend free skill points, with the same checks and messages as 1.298.
  • Hotkeys: right click a usable skill to put it on the first empty slot of the current hotkey page, or drag it onto any slot of the bar.

Inventory actions in the new client

  • Inventory: drag items between bag slots and equipment slots, drop them on the character portrait to equip, and right click to equip or unequip, with the same two-handed and class rules as 1.298.
  • Destroy: dragging an item onto the destroy area asks for confirmation before it is removed.
  • Look: your own character's model updates at once when you change equipment.

Looting corpses in the new client

  • Loot: click a corpse near you to open the loot window, then click an item or the coins to pick them up, as in 1.298. Party loot sharing and the pick-up messages work the same way.
v0.31

Original target symbol, click marker and target clearing

  • Target symbol: the selected target now gets the original 1.298 marker — the green ground ring and the small symbol above its head (Misc/Co_TargetSymbol.n3shape, loaded from the client data at runtime). It is sized to the target and stays on a corpse while the target is still selected.
  • Click marker: clicking the ground now shows the original pale sunburst pointer (FX 30001) at the clicked point. It follows the cursor while you hold the left button to steer and disappears when the walk ends. The white-violet FX 401 effect was a warp-skill effect, not a click marker.
  • Target clearing: a left click on empty ground now clears the selected target, like the original client.
  • Press on a character and hold: pressing a character selects it, and keeping the button down starts cursor steering after 0.1 s, the same as pressing the ground.
v0.30

Server list double click

  • Server list: double-clicking a server row now enters that server, like the original 1.298 client. A single click still selects the row, and the Connect button still works.
v0.29

Click-to-move ground marker and walking through mobs

  • Click-to-move marker: clicking on the ground now shows the original 1.298 marker — a white-violet glow that blooms at the clicked point (the 19-frame FX 401, loaded from the client data at runtime). While you hold the left button to steer, the marker follows your cursor along the ground.
  • Walking through mobs and NPCs: characters no longer block your way. The 1.298 blocking rule is still there for the purists: set character_block = true under [controls] in the settings file to bring it back.
v0.28

Left-hold steering, middle-click quick turn and the target ring

  • Left-hold steering: holding the left mouse button on the ground now keeps your character following the cursor after a short moment, like in 1.298 — including while the chat field is focused. The cursor position is taken from the mouse events themselves, so steering works at every window size and UI scale.
  • Middle-click quick turn: releasing the middle mouse button turns you around 180° at 360°/s (the camera swings in the third person view, your character turns in the other views), exactly like the 1.298 client.
  • Target ring: a selected living target now shows the original 1.298 ground marker — a pale glowing disc under its feet — which follows the target and disappears when the target dies or is deselected.
v0.27

Classic 1.298 character select stage and interface fixes

  • Character select 3D stage: the character select screen now renders the original 1.298 Karus cave and El Morad temple hall with all three character thrones in the scene at once, scene lighting, per-throne hover spotlights, class display weapons, equipped armour, smooth camera turns between the centre, left and right thrones, the classic Level / Specialty / ID info text (or creation prompt on empty thrones) when pointing at the centre throne, and the stand-up animation and fade-out when entering the world.
  • Server list: server names are shown in full in their original colours (green for the selected server, white for the others).
  • Chat input and mini map: typed chat sits cleanly inside the input bar above the channel tabs without overlapping them, and the mini map opens by default when entering the world.
  • Character window: the clan tab now displays the original Clan artwork from the 1.298 interface files.
v0.26

Right-mouse camera rotation and sensitivity setting

  • Right-mouse camera drag: fixed an interface layer issue that swallowed mouse presses over the 3D world, tuned right-drag rotation and vertical zoom to a natural 1.298 speed at any resolution and UI scale, kept active camera dragging responsive even when windows sit near the centre of the screen, and restored the mouse cursor to where you pressed the right button when you let go.
  • Mouse sensitivity: added a Mouse sensitivity slider (0.25x to 3.00x) to the Options window, saved under [camera] sensitivity in settings.cfg.
v0.25

Controls, camera and walking as in 1.298

  • Keys: T switches between walking and running (R is reserved for attacking, which comes with combat), E turns auto-run on and off, C sits down and stands up (at most once every 3 seconds, and only while you stand still), Z picks the nearest enemy, B the nearest NPC, X the nearest party member. W/S and the arrows walk, A/D and the arrows turn you at 60 degrees per second, F9 changes the view, Home and End tilt the camera, and the minus key on the number pad saves a screenshot. Keys work by their physical position, so they stay in place on AZERTY and QWERTZ keyboards, and they are ignored while you type in the chat.
  • Four views: F9 cycles behind your back, first person, in front of you and the third person view. The third person view is the default and the last view is remembered. There the camera has its own direction: turning your character does not turn the camera. Hold the right mouse button and move sideways to turn the camera, move down to zoom out and up to zoom in; the wheel zooms in steps of 0.4 m (2 to 10 m), Home and End tilt it between 10 and 70 degrees. In the other views the right button turns your character and tilts the view. The camera looks at your chest, has a 70 degree field of view and moves at once in front of walls and above the ground, without easing.
  • Walking: click on the ground to walk there in a straight line (a click closer than 1.5 m only turns you; you stop within half a metre of the point); hold the left button to steer after a tenth of a second. A wall, a steep slope, the edge of the map and enemy characters in the way stop you where you stand instead of sliding along them. Steps and falls feel the same at any frame rate.
  • Other players now glide between their position updates and turn at 270 degrees per second like in the original.
  • Targets: selecting someone asks the server for their health at once and refreshes it every 2 seconds; the target bar fills in at once and then follows changes after half a second, at half a bar per second. Damage and healing of the target show as lines in the information window.
  • Escape no longer opens the exit menu when no window is open, as in the original; use the Exit button.
v0.24

Inventory, character, skill and options windows

  • Inventory (I or the Inventory button): the window of the original game with your worn items around your character, the 7 by 4 bag, the stack counts, your gold and your weight. Item pictures come from the game's own files. Point at an item to see its box: name in the colour of its kind, what it is, the attack or defence numbers, the bonuses, the durability and what you need to use it; a requirement you do not meet is shown in red.
  • Character (U or the Character button): name, level, nation, class and race, hit and mana points, experience, national points, attack, defence, weight, strength, health, dexterity, intelligence and magic power with what your items add, the stat points left and the six resistances, as the server sends them.
  • Skills (K or the Skill button): the skill pages of your class, six to a page, with the pictures and names from the game's tables. Skills you are not high enough for show the question-mark picture. The basic tab, the three tabs of your line and, after the second promotion, the master tab are there, with the point counters. Spending skill points comes in a later update.
  • Windows: each window opens once, slides in from its side like in the original, comes to the front when you click it, and Escape closes the one in front. With nothing open, Escape opens the exit menu. The inventory and the skill tree make room for each other.
  • Exit menu: Exit now opens the original menu: Select Character takes you back to the character list without going through the login screen, Exit leaves the game, Options opens the settings and Cancel closes it.
  • Options: full screen or window size, view distance, music and effects volume (the sounds follow later) and name tags. They are saved and kept between runs.
  • Fixes: the inventory, gold, weight, item counts, durability, level-up points and national points on screen follow what the server sends while you play.
v0.23

The classic in-game interface

  • The original look in the world: the game client now draws the Knight Online 1.298 interface while you play: the command bar at the bottom, the chat and information windows above it, the HP, MP and experience bars with the minimap at the top left, the hot key bar and the target bar.
  • Chat: press Enter, type and press Enter again. The mode buttons (Normal, Private, Shout, Party, Knights) choose where a plain line goes, the small boxes next to them hide or show a channel, and the arrow buttons or the mouse wheel scroll the history. Lines are coloured by channel as in the original. Type @name text for a private message, # for the party, $ for the clan and ! to shout.
  • Commands: lines that start with a slash are commands and are never sent as chat. /town takes you back to town (only with at least half of your health), /pm name starts a private chat, /greeting, /provoke, /save and /exit work like in the original game.
  • Minimap: press M or the Map button. It follows you, shows the people and creatures around you as dots (blue for your nation, red for the enemy) and has zoom buttons.
  • Target: click a character or creature to select it; its name and health show at the top of the screen.
  • Character creation: the starting stats, the bonus points, the classes of each race and the descriptions now come from the game's own tables. A class a race cannot take is greyed out, and the stats a class relies on are highlighted.
  • Windows: the chat and information windows can be dragged by their title tab and folded into a small tab. Inventory, skills and the other windows follow in a later update.
v0.23

Forts, war monsters and the invasion gate

  • Weaker guardians in war: while the Lunar War is open, the guards, gates and levers of both nations everywhere in the world are weaker (half the life, less damage and armour). They are back to normal, and fully healed, when the war is over.
  • Forts: each fort in the Lunar Valley now announces itself to the whole server when all of its guards have fallen, and the two Keepers at the camps are in place at last, so their rooms can be cleared. The kill of a gatekeeper is announced with the name of the warrior who did it. Every fort and Keeper stands again when the next war begins.
  • Gates and levers: the prison gates open and close by themselves during the war, levers open and close their gates for everyone around, and all gates go back to their normal position when a war starts and when it ends.
  • Invading after a victory: the winners of the Lunar War can walk to the exit gate of their camp and pick "Invade Karus" or "Invade El Morad" from the list to enter the losers' homeland for a few minutes. The winners are told how when the victory is announced.
  • Snow War map: the Snow War is now fought on the map the game shows for it, and fallen warriors come back at their own starting corner.
v0.22

Lunar War and Snow War

  • Wars on command: game masters can now open the Lunar War (+open) and the Snow War (+snowopen) and end them (+close). The whole world is told when a war starts, and the Lunar Valley, the Snow War zone and the Frontier open and close with it.
  • Who may enter: the entrances to the war zones only work while the matching war is running, the Lunar Valley fills up to 150 warriors per nation, and the Frontier is closed during a war. Characters who log in somewhere that is closed are put back in their homeland.
  • Winning the Lunar War: when the war ends, the nation that defeated more enemy warriors in the Lunar Valley wins. The winners there receive national points and gold, the loading screen shows the last winner, and the winners can invade the losers' homeland for a few minutes before everyone is sent home. Equal kills end in a draw.
  • Snow War: only the sling can be used, every hit takes 10 life, health comes back quickly, every kill earns 2000 gold, and the nation with fewer losses wins.
  • Captains: the chiefs of the best clans who are fighting in the Lunar Valley can be made captains of their nation (up to five each). The nation is told who they are, and told again when a captain falls. Captains lose their rank when the war is over.
  • Stat reset discount: game masters can give half-price stat and skill resets to the last winners or to everybody.
v0.21

Classic login screens in the game client

  • The original look: the game client now shows the Knight Online 1.298 login screen with its animated artwork, the server list with load meters, the nation select, the character select, the character creation and the zone loading screen, drawn from the original interface files.
  • Login flow: enter your ID and password, pick a server from the list and press Connect. Notices from the login server appear first. Errors and confirmations use the classic message box.
  • Character select: use the arrow buttons or the arrow keys to switch between your characters, press Enter or double-click to play, or create a character in an empty slot with the new creation screen (race, job, face, hair and 20 bonus points).
  • Server address: there is no address field any more. The client reads Server.ini next to the game folder; an address in the client settings overrides it.
  • English everywhere: the in-game messages of the client are English now.
v0.20

Game master tools

  • GM commands in the game: game masters can use /arrest, /forbidconnect, /forbidchat and /permitchat on a player who is online. A muted player gets their old rights back when the mute is lifted.
  • Web GM panel: game masters get a private page on the website to find players and accounts, ban or unban an account, mute, unmute or kick a character, and send an announcement to everyone in the game. Every action is recorded.
  • Safety: a game master cannot ban, mute or kick themselves or another game master, and every ban or mute asks for a second confirmation.
v0.19

Dungeon party teleports

  • Forgotten Temple stairs and teleports: quest scripts that move the whole party (and take the dungeon key from every member) now work.
  • PC-bang and prepaid-card NPCs: these services are not available; their menus now give the normal "not available" answer, and nothing is ever handed out.
v0.18

Chat commands

  • /town: returning to town now explains itself when it is refused (dead, half HP or less, or no town point in the zone) instead of doing nothing.
  • Slash commands in chat: a line starting with / is never shown to other players any more. /town and /save work, anything else answers "Unknown command".
v0.17

Characters, monsters and NPCs in 3D

  • Real models: players, monsters and town NPCs now appear with their 1.298 models instead of capsules, with the right face, hair, armour, weapon and shield.
  • Animation: standing, walking, running, attacking, dying and sitting follow what the server tells the client. Equipment changes of other players show up at once.
  • Character select: the chosen character is shown as a slowly turning 3D model; click a name to look at another one.
  • Performance: distant characters use simpler models and are animated less often; characters off screen are not animated at all.
v0.16

Launcher and Options in English

  • Launcher 1.3.0: every button, status line and error message is now in English ("Play", "Verify/Repair", "Retry"). Download sizes use English number formatting.
  • Options: the settings window (resolution, graphics, sound) is now in English too. Your saved settings are unchanged.
  • Server messages: the welcome notice and login-screen message are in English.
v0.15

Item icons in the droplist

  • Icons: the droplist now shows each item's picture from the 1.298 client, in a dark slot like the inventory: on a monster's drop list, on the item page and in the search results.
  • Prepared from the client files: the pictures are cut from the client folder on the server when they are first needed. If that folder is missing, the site simply shows no icons.
v0.14

The site is now in English

  • English everywhere: menus, tables, forms and messages are in English, and game terms use the names of the English 1.298 client (Warrior, Rogue, Magician, Priest and the specialty classes such as Berserker Hero or Arch Mage).
  • New addresses: /ranking, /clans, /online, /droplist, /register, /login, /account, /downloads and /changelog. The old Turkish addresses redirect to the new ones, so saved links keep working.
  • The launcher is unaffected: it keeps talking to the same server addresses as before.
v0.13

The site now looks like the game's interface

  • New look: the site has the feel of the 1.298 game interface: dark windows with gold frames, stone buttons, a tabbed top menu, the game's colors and mouse cursor. Karus shows in red, El Morad in blue.
  • Comfortable on a phone too: pages read at phone width without sideways scrolling; wide tables scroll inside themselves.
  • Pictures from the client: the parts needed for the look are prepared automatically from the client files on the server. If the client folder is missing the site keeps working with its old plain look.
v0.12

Creating an account, signing in and changing your password on the web

  • Registration: you can create an account on the "Register" page of the site. The account name must be 3-19 letters/digits and the password 6-11 characters; the game client does not send a longer password. You also set the code asked when deleting a character here.
  • Sign-in and my account: after signing in on the site you see your characters and can change your password. Changing it asks for the old one.
  • Safer passwords: passwords are no longer stored in readable form but in a way that cannot be reversed. Existing accounts move over automatically the first time they sign in to the game or the site; your password stays the same.
  • Failed attempt limit: if a wrong password is entered 5 times in a row the account is locked for 5 minutes. A correct sign-in resets the counter.
v0.11

Ranking, clans, online players and droplist

  • Ranking: characters are listed by level (then by experience); you can filter by nation and class.
  • Clans: clans are sorted by points, and clicking a clan shows its members.
  • Online: the players in the game right now are listed with their levels and the zones they are in.
  • Droplist: the zones a monster is found in, the gold it gives and the items it drops with their percentages; which monsters drop an item and the item's properties. You can search by monster or item name.
  • The characters of administrators do not appear in the lists.
v0.10

The real Moradon in the new client (terrain, buildings, sky)

  • In the new client Moradon is now drawn as in 1.298: stone-paved ground, buildings, trees, fence and wall, fountain, water, sky, clouds, sun and fog.
  • While the map loads it shows "Loading map NN%"; the game does not freeze meanwhile.
  • If the 1.298 folder is not found, a flat-colored ground is drawn as before and a warning appears on screen.
  • The camera no longer goes into the ground and walls; if there is an obstacle it moves closer to the character.
  • The F3 key draws the map the server walks on (obstacles and ground) on top of the picture.
v0.9.2

Terrain height fix (waiting to be released on the server)

  • The new client now draws the terrain with its real height: slopes, steps and walls are in the right place, and buildings and obstacles stand on top of the ground.
  • The character stands at the correct ground height while walking, and click-to-walk goes to the correct ground.
  • On the server side, monster pathfinding will benefit from the same fix: rocks, buildings and trees are now where they really are. This part is waiting to be released on the server.
v0.9

Options tool and launcher 1.2.0

  • The "Options" button on the in-game login screen works now: the new Option.exe writes resolution, color depth, view distance, texture quality, shadows, sound, effect count, window mode and cursor settings to Option.ini. If the launcher is next to it, there is also a "Save and open launcher" button.
  • Launcher 1.2.0: the game is started from the OpenKO-1298 folder, in its own folder; settings and Server.ini are looked for next to the game. The version is shown in the bottom right corner of the launcher window, and while it updates itself it says which version it is moving from and to.
  • Log files created on the player's computer and the launcher's own files are no longer in the file list and are not handed out to anyone.
  • The old launcher (1.1.0) tries to start the game from the root folder and the game does not open. Since 1.2.0 updates itself this is temporary: opening the launcher once and waiting for it to update is enough.
  • The version in the options tool now shows the game's own version (1.298).
v0.8.1

New client: layout and map fixes

  • Text is no longer stacked letter by letter: the character list and the in-game header (name, level, HP, MP) are on a single line.
  • The character creation and deletion windows dim the screen and open in the middle; the layout no longer breaks when the window is resized.
  • The ground no longer looks like a chessboard: green, brown and gray tones are drawn with soft transitions, and obstacles stand out from the ground.
  • If the map cannot be read the game does not hang; an explanation is written to the chat. When the zone changes the character does not walk until the new map has arrived, and the height is correct after a teleport.
  • If a broken packet arrives from the server the client does not freeze; it closes the connection and tells you why. Players and monsters that never showed up nearby are requested again.
  • Players walking backwards no longer turn to face the direction they are moving in.
v0.8

New client trial: the first version written with Godot

  • The first trial version of a new client that is meant to replace the original one is ready. Gameplay and protocol are the same; the server did not change.
  • The launcher has a "New client (trial)" button next to "Play". The launcher downloads the files, and the button starts the new client.
  • You can sign in, pick or create a character, enter Moradon and walk around, see the players and monsters around you, and chat.
  • There are no models or textures yet: the terrain and obstacles are drawn from the server's map, and characters are simple shapes. Attacks, items and magic come in later stages.
  • Controls: W/S forward and back, A/D turn, left click to walk to a spot, right button for the camera, mouse wheel to zoom, R walk/run, Enter to chat.
v0.7

The launcher is here: game files update themselves

  • Downloading and running a single OldKo.Launcher.exe is enough. It downloads missing or changed files, verifies them and starts the game.
  • You do not need to download new patches separately: every change put on the server reaches you automatically the next time you start.
  • An interrupted download resumes where it stopped. A damaged file is downloaded again with "Verify/Repair".
  • Your own settings file (Option.ini), screenshots and other files are left as they are.
  • The launcher updates itself when a new version comes out.
  • Server status is shown at the top right, the latest changes on the left.
v0.6

The website is open

  • Server status (whether the login and game servers are up, how many people are online) on the home page.
  • A downloads page for the client and patches. An interrupted download resumes, and every file shows its SHA-256 checksum.
  • This changelog page.
v0.5

Monsters walk around obstacles. Movement and attack fixes

  • Pathfinding: Monsters no longer walk through rocks, buildings and trees; they go around them. Spawn points no longer land inside obstacles either.
  • Rubber-banding fixed: Changing direction while running no longer pulls the character back to the old position.
  • Walking backwards fixed: No more getting stuck on an invisible wall or being teleported forward while walking backwards.
  • Attacks no longer stop: Hits that arrive late because of network lag are no longer rejected. Attack speed is still limited by the weapon's speed.
  • Client patch: Monsters blocking the player's path was a rule of the client itself. 0001-mobs-do-not-block-player.patch removes it; it is on the downloads page.
v0.4

Party, clan, quests and upgrading

  • Party: invite, leave, kick; experience sharing.
  • Clan: create, join, ranks, handing over leadership, disbanding.
  • Quests: NPC quest scripts (EVT), item exchange, novice and master promotions.
  • Anvil: item upgrading, with the original odds.
  • Distributing and resetting stat and skill points, class change.
v0.3

Monsters, combat and the item economy

Monsters and combat

  • 6,036 monsters and NPCs spawn on 20 maps; monster AI: wandering, aggro, chasing, returning.
  • Melee and ranged attacks, PvP, death and respawn.
  • Experience, leveling up, dropped items and gold.
  • Magic (types 1-4): attacks, healing, buffs and debuffs.

Item economy

  • Inventory, equipping, NPC shops, bank, repair and durability.
  • Trading between players.
  • All item and gold operations go through a single point; they are either applied completely or not at all. There are separate tests for duplication exploits.
v0.2

Entering the game, movement and chat

  • Creating, deleting and selecting characters. Choosing a nation.
  • Entering the game, loading the map, seeing the players in view.
  • Moving, turning, sitting down and standing up; zone changes and warps.
  • Chat: general, private, party and clan.
  • The server checks character speed and position itself; there is protection against speed hacks.
  • The character is saved on exit and at regular intervals.
v0.1

The project starts. Login server and database

The server is being written from scratch in .NET 10. The database is MariaDB 11. Everything runs in Docker.

  • The network protocol of the 1.298 client is written: packet framing, encryption and compression.
  • The OpenKO database was moved to MariaDB: 61 thousand items, more than 1,700 monster groups, quest and clan data.
  • The login server works: version check, sign-in, server list, news.
  • Wrong password attempts are limited per IP address.
